Jewelry Care Tips

Every piece of KAKURU jewelry is made and assembled in our workshop with extra care. We would love it if you wore your KAKURU forever!

Please follow the care instructions to make jewelry last a lifetime!

925 Sterling Silver

Our jewelry is made of 925 Sterling Silver. We plate our silver jewelry to prevent oxidization and give it a color shade. We use rhodium and black rhodium for white and black color. Rhodium is one of the costliest precious metals due to its rarity. We use a thick layer of 21-24k gold or 18k rose gold to plate silver jewelry, to give it extra durability and shine.

  • Plated jewelry will eventually tarnish and its plating will gradually fade. Be aware that tarnish may occur as a result of oxidization, caused by the interaction of gold, rose gold and black rhodium plated jewelry with certain elements such as oxygen or sulfur as well as with certain acids.
  • Make sure you remove all pieces of plated jewelry before showering, applying lotion, make-up, hairspray, hand sanitizers and perfume.
  • The best way to protect your jewelry from tarnishing and prolong its shine, is to store it safely into cloth pouches and boxes with an anti-tarnish strip like KAKURU packaging. Try to keep each piece apart so they don’t rub together.
  • Bag the pendant into the pouch and leave the clasp hanging out to avoid tangling.
  • An easy way to clean it at home and restore its shine is to dip it in a glass bowl with warm water and gentle liquid soap –preferably no fragranced or antibacterial soap– for a few seconds, wash it off and gently wipe it dry with a clean cloth. Do not use silver polish because it will cause the plating to wear off.
  • Never go swimming wearing jewelry, as chlorine in swimming pools and salt water can cause damage to all metals.
  • Avoid wearing while cleaning, gardening or performing sports activities.
  • Always protect your jewelry from sharp blows, scratching, chemicals, sunlight and heat/cold.

14k/18k Gold

Solid gold is a precious metal that will not oxidize or discolor.

  • Make sure you remove all pieces of gold jewelry before showering, applying lotion and hand sanitizer, make-up, hairspray, perfume and before any sports activity.
  • Store it safely into cloth pouches and boxes. Try to keep each piece apart so they don’t rub together.
  • Bag the pendant into the pouch and leave the clasp hanging out to avoid tangling.

Olive Wood

The olive wood used to create this piece is ethically sourced from the city of Sparta, located in the region of Laconia, in southern Greece. Sustainable olive wood comes from olive trees that no longer produce fruit and are continuously replaced.

  • Make sure you remove all pieces of jewelry with olive wood before showering, applying lotion and hand sanitizer, make-up, hairspray, perfume and before any sports activity. If the olive wood gets wet, let it dry naturally. Store it safely to avoid any scratches or cuts.
  • Always protect your jewelry from sharp blows, scratching, chemicals, sunlight and heat/cold.
  • Avoid wearing while cleaning, gardening or performing sports activities.
  • To keep the wood grain looking fresh, take a scrub sponge and gently scrub the piece of wood on your jewelry to remove any dust or dirt from the wooden surface. Take a cloth and tip one edge in the olive oil, making sure you only get a small amount of olive oil on the cloth and rub it all around the wood. Take a dry tip of the cloth and shine the wood and leave it to dry for at least 24 hours. The wood on your jewelry is shiny and bright again!

Semi-precious stones

We use a variety of semi-precious stones. All the stones are hand cut and shaped based on our designs.

  • Stones do not enjoy water or chemicals. They will be easily damaged or broken if the jewelry fall down. Please make sure you take extra care of them!
  • Avoid wearing while cleaning, gardening or performing sports activities.
  • Also, prolonged exposure to sunlight may cause certain stones to become paler in color and lose their shine.
